Fast or Feast?

Written by  Lighthouse Victory Church

There is a great deal of significance in our call to fast – Seek Me & Find Me – during the season of Jewish Feasting.  Rosh Hashanah on Thursday September 29 – to seek the Lord for His favour and forgiveness.  After 10 days of Repentance – October 8th is the Day of Atonement when the priest and the people seek the Lord for forgiveness of all their sins during the last year.  This leads to the last of the 3 Fall feasts on October 13th comes the Feast of Tabernacles with a period of Celebration that the Lord has heard their cries and forgiven them.

The Seek Me & Find Me fast from October 8th – 14th falls right in the middle of Thanksgiving season when we fill up on physical food and, sometimes, forget to thank God fully.  Thank Him not only His provision of the food harvest and a fruitful land to live but for the abundant life we live every day not only when the world hijacks His holy days.

Our fast is not just about food but more about an action of our heart to de-clutter our complicated lives, to seek after His Kingdom and His Righteousness FIRST.  The only fast that God required of them was on the Day of Atonement but people could fast when they needed to seek God.  Use the plan (which is with this bulletin) – make sure God is glorified not as the prophet Isaiah wrote in first part of chapter 58 but with His blessings as we remain faithful.

We have included the fasting plan as a PDF file, which you can download by clicking the link below.
